although never completed, this remodel takes a modest inner city home, and transforms an outdoor courtyard and the main living spaces for a newly wed couple on a tight budget. 

 

we approached the courtyard design as a secondary living room that encouraged evening social gatherings. at the same time we opened up the outdated kitchen to make a more spacious great room with a kitchen island, dining area, office space, and large multi-slide patio doors that access the side and rear yards.

 

we incorporated a simple mix of new materials and design features to enhance the home's curb-appeal such as wood-slatted gates, a steel trellis, modern address numbers, and concrete pavers as well as new landscaping.
