older homes are often very "choppy". it was how builders back then used redundancy for structural support rather than engineering principles. the problem: rooms are very small, dark and isolated.

this home is the true definition of a gut-job. nearly every interior wall needed to be removed to rearrange the interior spaces and create an open floor plan. the big move: we cut into the rear exterior masonry wall adding an exposed steel beam for support over a 21 foot long multi-sliding glass door to open up the views and access to the park-like backyard. the interior design is a thoughtful balance of what might at first be considered traditional design elements used in a modern way. for example herringbone walnut floors, hand-painted ceramic tiles and marble counters.
